It's amazing how many kids in the group love to color. I think there's only one student that doesn't at least find it mildly interesting. Granted skill ranges from random color blobs regardless of the actual pictures to almost better than the instructors.
But, it was my first day at this job...and my first day of actual hands on work with kids. I WAS IN CHARGE...HOLY CRAP. Or rather, my co-worker was in charge, I just starred at the 40+ wriggling kids in horror and tried to fumble around with procedures, names and censoring my mouth. It had been a long time since I'd had to censor myself. I almost slipped a few times, including one spectacular case where toward the end of the day I told my co-worker that I had a 'shitty poker face' while playing connect 4. This? Would have been alright, if their hadn't been a 4 year old less than 3 feet away. Lucky, the boy didn't hear it and Bob* the co-worker just thought it was hysterical.
But,back to the point, here I was freaked out, panicky and well, freaking out. I took out one of our Star Wars coloring sheets (the boys absolutely love them, the girls go for the fairies) and carefully started to color Chewbacca the closest color to his brown from what I could find in the ratty pile of crayons. Bob sees what I'm doing and quips, "See the first few times, you color them like your supposed to, then? You get crazy, blue Chewbacca, Red Chewbacca, purple Chewbacca, Rainbow Chewbacca..."
Me: Rainbow Chewbacca?
Bob: Yeah, Let the Wookiee show his pride.
Me: Do wookies even have pride.
Bob: I think that's one of those George Lucas things, you know, that we discover in the extended universe. Prideful wookies.
Me: ::cackle::
2nd Grader: What's so funny?"
Me/Bob: Forget it.
And from that point on, I was loose, for some reason the absurdity of talking about "prideful" rainbow wookies while we were supposed to be the responsible adults.... well, suddenly I knew I could handle it. Thank you George Lucas and Bob.

So, this is the blog, the blog that jack built.
No, not really. Blogger built it, I just hit little buttons and made things pretty.
So, I suppose I should make a bit of a mission statement for this blog

So, here are observations, stories, and just life.

El Mission Statement:
- A place to share funny stories (with details removed of course) of life as a 'instructor' of an elementary school afterschool program.
- A place to occasionally rant about education issues, politics, or whoever pisses me off at the time. (Drivers, politicians, professors, other bloggers, etc.)
- I'm a sci-fi dork, sometimes, I just have to squee. You, can deal.
- Nothing really, I just like having four points.
So, here are observations, stories, and just life.
